ACYS Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
This ACYS FAQ page answers questions about ACYS and its sponsored sports, which include soccer, flag football, basketball, and baseball. Throughout the year, about 5,000 players on about 300 teams play under the ACYS banner in Central Florida.
 
The FAQ questions are divided into various topic categories. Browse the individual questions and answers, or use the navigation hyperlinks at the bottom of the left column to jump directly to a specific category.

About ACYS
Q:   What does ACYS stand for?
A:   ACYS is the acronym for the Association of Christian Youth Sports.
 
Q:   What is the ACYS mission statement?
A:   Our mission is to glorify God by developing and operating sports programs based on biblical principals where young people can learn Christian values by participating in a healthy, competitive environment.
 
Q:   What sports does ACYS offer?
A:  ACYS offers spring and fall seasons of soccer, a fall/ winter season of flag football and a winter season of basketball, and a spring season of baseball.

Q:   What is the philosophy of ACYS?
A:   Our philosophies encompass open registration, positive coaching, everyone plays and good sportmanship. -   Open Registration: Our program is open to all children ages 4 through 13 who want to register. Interest, enthusiasm, and a good attitude are the only criteria for playing.
 *Positive Coaching - We believe that winning is more than the score at the end of the game. It begins with an attitude of caring and understanding. We encourage our coaches, referees, and parents to make an extra effort to offer positive help and encouragement to our players, rather than negative criticism.
 *Everyone Plays - Our goal is for everyone to have fun playing. We want all of our players to have an ample opportunity to do so. We mandate that every player on each team play at least one half of every game.
  *Good Sportsmanship - We desire to create a healthy, competitive environment based on Christian values, rather than a win-at-all- costs attitude. All of our programs are designed and intended to instill good sportsmanship into every facet of ACYS. 

Q:   I have heard about the sports commandments. What are they?
A:   The sports commandments outline proper behavior for players, coaches, parents and fans. Review the ACYS sports commandments that are available as PDF or Word documents.

Calendar
Q:   Is there a calendar of upcoming ACYS events?
A:   Yes. The ACYS calendar shows the important dates for all ACYS activities.
 
Registration
Q:   How do I register my child if I’m not affiliated with a school, church or team?
A:   From the ACYS website print a registration form located on the soccer page. All registration information is located there as well. Then mail the completed form, along with a photo copy of the child’s birth certificate and a payment to ACYS. The league address is located at the top of the ACYS home page. ACYS does it’s best to place children on teams close to where they live.
 
Q:   How do I know what age group my child is in?
A:   Age group and fee information is available in either PDF or Word formats.
 
Q:   How and when will I be notified once my child is placed on a team?
A:   Child placements usually occur within two weeks after final registration. Either a coach or age group commissioner will call you to confirm placement an practice times. 
 
Q:   When does my child’s team practice and where?
A:   Practice times and locations are unique to each team. Most are after school and in the evening to accommodate the working schedules of parents who volunteer to coach. Your specific time and location will be made known once your child is placed on a team. 
 
Q:   How will my child get his/her uniform?
A:   Uniforms are usually ordered by the team organizer or coach. Once placed on a team you will be notified regarding uniforms and informed of the cost. Uniforms and are not included in the cost of registration. 
 
Q:   Does my child need special shoes or equipment to play?
A:   Soccer - Soccer cleats are not requred but they do make playing soccer easier and safer. Tennis shoes on wet grass are very slippery. Shin gaurds are requred and necessary to protect a players shins. They should be worn under a players socks and must be competely covered. The purchase of soccer cleats are the responsibility of the player. 
 
Facilities
Q:   Where are the ACYS facilities located?
A:   ACYS soccer games are played primarily at Trotters Park. Basketball is played at various gyms in the Orlando area. Flag football is played at Trotter’s Park. Maps with directions to all ACYS facilities are available.
 
Soccer
Q:   Where can I get the offical rules for soccer?
A:   Interactive Laws of the Game can be viewed via the FIFA.com website. PDF versions of the Laws of the Game (826KB) and Questions and Answers about the Laws of the Game (539KB) can be viewed directly. 
 
Q:   Does ACYS sponsor soccer camps?
A:   ACYS hosts soccer training camps for all ages. Check out camps by Sasvariway and MLS.
 
Flag Football
Q:   Where is the FAQ for flag football?
A:   Updates for the flag football FAQ are forthcoming.
 
Basketball
Q:   Where is the FAQ for basketball?
A:   Updates for the basketball FAQ are forthcoming.
 
Baseball
Q:   Where is the FAQ for baseball?
A:   The new ACYS baseball program is being developed. The baseball FAQ will be updated as the information becomes available.

ACYS Sports Commandments
 
Soccer Start Program:
Soccer Start is a special program offered to kids wanting to play the fun game of soccer who would not normally have the opportunity or the means to do so. Games are played at Trotters Park for Ages 4 -12 years of age. Please contact ACYS for more information.
